The clients were just finishing their new extension when Catherine first visited this south London garden. The design called for an indoor/outdoor approach - the large glass windows could be opened up across the width of the deck. The challenge was also to create a garden that looked wonderful throughout the year when viewed from the extension. The asymmetrical layers of horizontal and vertical planes of water, rendered concrete, bench, overhead beams and silver birches achieve this in the way they catch the natural sunlight and form backdrops for the shadows of the low planting. The dark grey overhead beams echo the window frames and this colour is also repeated in a dark grey stained fence.
