The owner of this large garden in Wimbledon was keen to encourage wildlife and the planting design has been devised to maximise the opportunities for all sorts of insects and birds. Perennials are chosen for their attractiveness to bees and butterflies and many have long lasting seedheads that provide cover and food in the winter. The green roof has a deeper layer of substrate than that required for a simple sedum roof and we were able to plants grasses and several taller growing flowering perennials as well as succulents. Trees and shrubs provide cover for birds and the lawn has been planted with clover to encourage insects.
